Homework Guidelines are as follows:
Homework grading and schedule:
Homework assignments will be posted on-line before each monday's lecture and will be due at the beginning of the following Monday's lecture, no exceptions. Late homework will result in 50% reduction of the homework grade, however, you can turn any late homework in at any point in the semester and receive 50% credit.
Changes in homework problems and schedule will be posted in the on-line announcements so check back often.
Expectations for homework:
State all assumptions
Show your work - if you use a spreadsheet, show your calculations and multipliers - even if it means writing an example calculation on the spreadsheet.
Circle or box your final answer
Include units
Use scientific notation when necessary
Use significant figures
Further comments about homework:
Most of the learning in this class is done through the homework problems. It's true, to do chemistry is the best way to learn chemistry. So in order to succeed in this class you will need to spend a lot of time working on homework problems. I recommend working in groups whenever possible. I also recommend picking up your own copy of Snoeyink and Jenkins, Water Chemistry, it will be a valuable resource for you as you work through homework problems. This and many other helpful chemical hydrogeology resources are available for perusal in Phil Bennett's office: GEO 5.224.
